Clinical Assistant Professor in the School of Community Resources and Development, Arizona State University

The School of Community Resources and Development invites applications for the position of Clinical Assistant Professor. This is a non-tenure track 12-month appointment. The faculty member will oversee internships and teach in the undergraduate programs of Nonprofit Leadership and Management, Parks and Recreation Management, and Tourism Development and Management.  These programs have professional requirements that are administered through courses such as:  Community Services and Professions; Leadership and Professional Development; and Senior Internship, a capstone 12-credit culminating experience. All three of the undergraduate programs deliver in-person and online coursework through the Downtown Phoenix campus.

Responsibilities include teaching professional development classes, supervision of interns, and service to the School.  Teaching may be face-to-face, online or a combination of those formats.  The position requires:

  • Collaboration with other faculty and student services staff to assess program effectiveness;
  • Continuous improvement of courses;
  • Full participation in program assessment and accreditation activities;
  • Relationship building with community partners;
  • Summer teaching, preferably starting summer 2012;
  • Remain current with national curriculum guidelines in each area.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Nonprofit, Parks, Recreation, Tourism, or Event Management or related field;
  • Minimum of five years professional experience focused on any of the School’s fields of study;
  • Demonstrated evidence of current theoretical knowledge in professional development;
  • Demonstrated evidence of community partnership building;
  • Demonstrated ability to teach effectively online and in the classroom;
  • Demonstrated ability to work with culturally diverse populations.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Earned doctorate in tourism, recreation, leisure studies, nonprofit management, or a closely related field from an accredited institution;
  • Demonstrated prior experience in university level teaching.

The position starts May 15, 2012 with the possibility of a July 1, 2012 start date.  Application deadline is February 24, 2012; if not filled, every two weeks thereafter until search is closed.

The School of Health and Applied Human Sciences in the College of Health and Human Services at the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) is recruiting an Assistant Professor tenure track faculty member for the Recreation, Sport Leadership and Tourism Management program. This is a 9-month position to begin fall 2012.

We seek individuals who can increase the depth of research, teaching and community engagement of our tourism option program and create linkages with related programs within our unit and interprofessional collaboration within the College of Health and Human Services. The successful applicant will teach undergraduate courses in the curriculum such as: convention, meeting and event management, quality service management, introduction to travel and tourism, research methods and other courses as needed. The successful applicant may also teach web-based courses. Other duties include student advising, participation in school/college/university committees and maintaining involvement in professional association(s) and the community.

A Doctorate degree in Recreation, Tourism, Hospitality or closely related discipline from an accredited university is required or must be obtained within the first academic year of employment. Evidence of teaching experience and excellence as well as a research agenda is required. Applicant should also have professional experience in the tourism or hospitality industry, with event management experience preferred.
