We are pleased to invite research focused practitioners and the academic community to submit their ideas and concepts for sessions and papers at this year’s conference.

As well as concurrent research papers presenting the latest tourism developments in our region, we have a great range of speakers and panels, including

Keynotes -

Professor Cathy Hsu, Chair Professor, School of Hotel and Tourism Management, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University
Mr Anthony Lau, Executive Director, Hong Kong Tourism Board
Ms Sarah Matthew, Head of Destination Marketing APAC, TripAdvisor
Mr Frank Huang, General Manager of Hotel Sector, Alibaba Group

Special Panels -

Special Panel I: Empowering women in tourism: Fair futures and diverse economies
2017 is the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development, so it is appropriate that we address the UNWTO agenda that includes using gender analysis and gender training, tackling inequality and discrimination, facilitating female access to jobs and/or fair participation in travel supply-chains. This track invites papers that address the ways that women assert authority in the design, delivery and future proofing of enterprise, practice sustainable tourism and influence community development; as individuals, a group, in cultural or other settings.   Panellists will respond to selected papers, present their views and debate issues. General hospitality and tourism papers will also be considered.

Special Panel II: Media and tourism: From travel writing to film
We are proud to host our third special session on tourism and the media, following this popular theme from earlier editions of the conference. Tourism has a demonstrated interdependent relationship with the media that can be used to leverage sustainability in the Asia-Pacific, and this track will explore different aspects of this relationship. The special track invites papers on topics from travel writing, contents tourism, through to movies, and all media in-between (including, though not limited to popular and new media). Papers that reflect the theme are preferred, though general tourism and media papers will also be considered.

There will be paper sessions following these two panels and proposed journal special editions on those themes to follow the conference.
