Academic Research Program:

Exploring aTTRActive Destinations

48th ttra Annual International Conference

Québec City, Québec, Canada

June 20 – 22, 2017

Abstract Deadline: January 10, 2017

« Cet appel à communications est disponible en francais ICI »

The Academic Paper Co-Chairs, Drs. Jonathon Day and Laurent Bourdeau, invite academic submissions in English or French for the 2017 Annual International Conference of the Travel and Tourism Research Association.

Join us in Québec City, described by Travel and Leisure as Canada’s top city, to share cutting edge tourism research. We’ll explore how destinations are embracing creative industries, adopting “smart” strategies and implementing programs to ensure sustainable development and improved quality of life – for visitors and residents. We’ll look at the impact of technology on consumers and the destinations they visit. From the growing influence of mobile technologies to augmented reality, technology is changing the way destinations connect with residents and consumers. And we’ll examine the newest research on consumer behavior and marketplace trends. Don’t miss this opportunity to contribute to this important forum.

The central theme of the conference is “Exploring aTTRActive Destinations.” Both conceptual and empirical papers are encouraged relating to the broadly defined sub-themes:

  • Creative, Smart and Sustainable Destinations
  • Disruptive Technology and Radical Innovation
  • New Insights on Consumer Behavior

While authors are encouraged to submit articles addressing these themes, any papers related to current issues in tourism or tourism research will be considered. We welcome articles using quantitative, qualitative and mixed methods approaches.

Submission details, author guidelines, and document templates can be found at the ttra scholarworks website. To submit your paper, you will need:

  1. The names, affiliations and contact information of all authors
  2. The bios for all authors (50 words each)
  3. The title of your paper
  4. A short abstract (150 words or less)
  5. The body of your extended abstract with no identifier information (up to 3,000 words)

“Ideas Fair” for Visual Papers:

Once again, the Conference will feature practitioner, academic and blended sessions as well as the popular “Ideas Fair” visual paper sessions which allow for more in-depth discussions with authors. The organizers may determine whether a presentation should be oral or visual, although authors can indicate their preference as part of the submission. Full technical details for both will be provided with the acceptance of the paper late February 2017.

More information on the “Ideas Fair” for Visual Papers can be found here.

Qualitative Research:

Once again, the conference will conduct a special program for qualitative research. Researcher’s conducting qualitative research are encouraged to participate in special programming focusing on the interests of qualitative research.

More details on the Qualitative Research Program can be found here.

Student Research Colloquium:

As Co-Chairs of the 7th Annual Graduate Student Research Colloquium, Drs. Gyan Nyaupane, Ils Tussyadiah, and Pascale Marcotte invite submissions in English and French. The Workshop will held on June 20, 2017 in conjunction with the International Conference. The organizers will determine the best format for presentations, but submissions should follow the same guidelines as provided on the ttra scholarworks website.

Details of the Student Research Colloquium Program at TTRA 2017 can be found here.

ALL accepted papers will be published in the conference Proceedings through ttra scholarworks website, either as extended abstracts or full papers, as authors prefer.
