Academic Research Program:
Encouraging Innovation in the Universe of Tourism Research
49th Annual TTRA International Conference
Miami ~ Coral Gables, Florida USA
June 26 – 28, 2018
Abstract Deadline: January 21, 2018
The Academic Paper Co-Chairs, Drs. Jonathon Day and Aaron Tham, invite academic submissions for the 2018 Annual International Conference of the Travel and Tourism Research Association.
Join us in Miami/Coral Gables, Florida, at the historic Biltmore – Coral Gables, to share forward-thinking, cutting-edge tourism research. Our program will explore the future of tourism research and examine new tools for understanding our complex challenges. As we prepare for the Twenty Twenties, our program will also consider the skills needed for the successful tourism researcher of the coming decade. Bringing together thought leaders from industry and academia, this conference will provide important insights on the future of tourism research.
This year’s program includes:
Academic program including visual and standup presentations of research papers
Qualitative Research Workshop
Graduate Student Research Colloquium
The central theme of the conference is “Encouraging innovation in the universe of tourism research”. Both conceptual and empirical papers are encouraged relating to the broadly defined sub-themes:
· Innovation and Smart, Sustainable Destinations
· Disruptive Technology and Radical Innovation
· New Insights and Innovative research on consumer behavior
While authors are encouraged to submit articles addressing these themes, any papers related to current issues in tourism or tourism research will be considered. We welcome articles using quantitative, qualitative or mixed methods approaches.
Submission details, author guidelines, and document templates can be found at the TTRA Scholarworks website. To submit your paper, you will need:
1. The names, affiliations and contact information of all authors
2. The bios for all authors (50 words each)
3. The title of your paper
4. A short abstract (150 words or less)
5. The body of your extended abstract with no identifier information (up to 3,000 words)
Once again, the Conference will feature practitioner, academic and blended sessions as well as the popular "Ideas Fair" visual paper sessions which allow for more in-depth discussions with authors. The organizers may determine whether a presentation should be oral or visual, although authors can indicate their preference as part of the submission.
For more information on why you should consider submitting a visual presentation, please see BELOW. Full technical details for both will be provided with the acceptance of the paper late February 2018.
Qualitative Research Workshop: Once again, the conference will conduct a special program for qualitative research convened by Drs. Nancy McGehee and Whitney Knollenberg. Researcher’s conducting qualitative research are encouraged to participate in special programming focusing on the interests of qualitative research.
More details on the Qualitative Research Program can be found here.
Graduate Student Research Colloquium: As Co-Chairs of the 8th Annual Graduate Student Research Colloquium, Drs. Evan Jordan and James Petrick invite submissions in English. The Workshop will held on June 26 in conjunction with the International Conference. The organizers will determine the best format for presentations, but submissions should follow the same guidelines as provided on Scholarworks.
Details of the Graduate Student Research Colloquium Program at TTRA 2018 can be found here.
ALL accepted papers will be published in the conference Proceedings through Scholarworks, either as short or extended abstracts, as authors prefer. Note that Scholarworks in an indexed open source digital library and therefore all the abstracts will be easily discoverable and downloaded via the internet.
TTRA International has a rich awards program for both academics, students and practitioners. Please note: to be eligible for any of the academic awards, an extended abstract paper must be provided and published in the Conference Proceedings, and at least one author must attend the conference.
