Position: Research Manager

We are currently recruiting for a Research Manager to join our team in downtown Portland.  Reporting to the Global Marketing Services Director, this role manages the agency’s research programs and effectively summarizes and interprets research findings such that insights can be translated into strategic decisions.  The successful candidate is an adept project manager who understands the areas of destination marketing, development, visitor services, and can effectively provide research support and strategic analysis for these functions.  To get an overview of our current tourism research, please visit

Qualifications: A minimum of three years of experience within in a dedicated research role (or equivalent education level) using applied research methodology and analysis techniques to reveal consumer insights and motivations. Experience in tourism research is preferred.

- The proven ability to analyze qualitative and quantitative information and utilize data visualization techniques.

- A Bachelor’s degree with marketing, consumer research or a statistics focus is required.  Master’s degree is preferred.

- Expertise building surveys in Survey Monkey or a similar online survey platform

- High level computer skills, including proficiency using MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required. Experience with Google Analytics and with Tableau, or other business intelligence software, strongly preferred.

- The ability to represent the agency before the public at meetings and industry functions, including making presentations to a wide range of groups with the ability to communicate complex, research-related analysis and insights in an effective, easily understandable way.

Position: Associate Dean, School of Sport, Tourism and Hospitality Mangement 

Description: Located in one of the largest and most dynamic cities in the United States and with exceptional connections to industry, Temple University’s School of Sport, Tourism and Hospitality Management (STHM) is a model of sustainable excellence in education, research, and service. STHM is the largest provider of tourism, hospitality, sport and recreation management education in the Philadelphia region, an international model for innovative teaching and research, and is now inviting nominations and applications for the position of Associate Dean.

Reporting to the Dean and Senior Associate Dean of both STHM and the Fox School of Business, the successful applicant will be responsible for the overall administration of STHM, with its approximately 40 full-time faculty and staff. The Associate Dean of STHM will work with a team of leaders, including an Assistant Dean, two department chairs, and several Directors. The role of the Associate Dean is inclusive of, but not limited to the broad overall management functions of: strategic planning, budgeting, marketing, enrollment management, curriculum, academic programs management, faculty recruitment and management, personnel administration, internships, placements, industry relations, development, public relations, space procurement and distribution, special events, and team morale. 

Qualifications: Successful applicants should have an academic record appropriate for appointment as a full professor with tenure and at least three years of administrative experience as a Director, Chair, Associate Dean, or similar level of responsibility. A terminal degree in an STHM related discipline is required. Successful candidates should have the ability to work effectively with numerous stakeholders, an understanding of elements critical to enhancing the academic distinction and reputation of STHM, effective communication, negotiation, motivation and decision-making skills, and an entrepreneurial spirit to help leverage all of STHM’s available assets.

Georgia Department of Economic Development

Position: Director of Tourism Research

Description: The Georgia Department of Economic Development (GDEcD) is the state’s sales and marketing arm, the lead agency for attracting new business investment, encouraging the expansion of existing industry and small businesses, addressing macro level workforce issues, locating new markets for Georgia products, attracting tourists to Georgia, and promoting the state as a destination for arts events and location for film, music and digital entertainment projects, as well as planning and mobilizing state resources for economic development.

The Research Director performs a variety of research functions to facilitate decision-making about marketing the state as a leisure travel destination and analyzing the impact of Georgia’s tourism industry on communities and the state, including: determining the need for and conducting research programs, developing and delivering presentations based on research for staff members and community groups;  overseeing the division’s measurement metrics program, including collecting and disseminating tourism-related data to staff, legislators, stakeholders and the media; analyzing the results of advertising/promotions/marketing/communications programs to determine which markets and media have performed well and poorly to guide future marketing decisions, media placements and advertising design; overseeing contractors engaged to perform research-related work for the Department (including overseeing RFPs for new vendors as needed); preparing policy papers/whitepapers on tourism-related issues; designing and executing research projects including surveys and impact analyses; and educating tourism industry partners about research topics, methodologies and the use of various research resources that are available to them.
